This summary is provided to help you understand our Privacy Policy. It does not replace the full policy below.
We collect what we need
We collect account, order, app, label, storage and technical information so QR Pantry can work properly.
Data may be overseas
Your information may be stored or processed in Australia, the United States and other countries where our providers operate, including when you use AI-powered features.
You can contact us
You can ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal and operational limits.
1. Who we are
This website is operated by Inception Ventures Pty Ltd ABN 31 636 135 414, trading as QR Pantry (QR Pantry, we, us or our).
Our website address is https://qrpantry.com.
This Privacy Policy applies to our website, store, QR Pantry app (including versions installed from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store), QR Pantry labels, QR Pantry Pro, accounts, support channels, marketing activities and related services.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
2. What information we collect
The types of information we collect depend on how you interact with QR Pantry.
Account and contact information
When you create an account, place an order, contact us or use the app, we may collect information such as your name, email address, username, billing details, shipping details, phone number, account preferences and support messages.
Order and payment information
When you buy QR Pantry products or QR Pantry Pro, we may collect order details, product selections, subscription status, payment status, billing address, shipping address, transaction references and related purchase records.
Payment information may be processed by third-party payment providers. We do not intentionally store full payment card details unless expressly stated by a payment provider or required for transaction records.
QR Pantry app, label and storage information
When you use QR Pantry, we may collect or store information you add to the app, including label links, QR code records, item names, food descriptions, expiry dates, use-by dates, storage locations, spaces, notes, cooking instructions, shopping links, quantities, barcode information, images and other details you choose to save.
AI feature inputs
If you use AI-powered features, we collect the content you submit to those features, such as photos of food items, photos of storage spaces, images of receipts, barcode or product text, and the results generated from that content. We also record how often you use AI features so we can apply fair-usage limits. See the AI features section for details.
Household sharing information
If you create or join a household, we collect and store household membership records, including which accounts belong to the household, invitation and join activity, and the items, spaces and lists shared within the household. See the Household sharing section for details.
Images and media
If you upload images to QR Pantry, those images may contain embedded metadata such as camera information or location data. You should avoid uploading images with embedded location data if you do not want that information included.
Notification information
If you enable push notifications or reminders, we may store a notification token or endpoint provided by your browser or device so we can deliver notifications to you.
Technical and usage information
We may collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages visited, app interactions, login activity, error logs, cookie identifiers, approximate location derived from technical data, referral source and usage analytics.
Comments and forms
If you leave a comment or submit a form, we collect the information shown in the form, along with technical information such as IP address and browser user agent details to help with spam detection, security and support.
QR Pantry Partners
If you apply to the QR Pantry Partner Program, we collect the information in your application, such as your name, the places you post with your handles and follower numbers, a post you choose to share, how you would show QR Pantry to your audience, the code you would like and a postal address for your Starter Pack. To pay you, we also collect your ABN, legal name and GST registration (or your statement that sharing QR Pantry is a hobby for you) and your payout details, such as your PayID. We keep a record of the partner agreement you accepted, the orders your code or link brings in, the commission on them and the payouts we make.
If you buy with a partner’s code or after following a partner’s link, we record which partner referred your order so we can pay their commission. The partner sees the order number, the date and what was bought, never who bought it.
3. How we use your information
We use personal information for purposes including:
- creating, managing and securing your QR Pantry account;
- providing the QR Pantry app, label features and QR Pantry Pro features;
- linking QR Pantry labels, QR codes, items, spaces and storage records to your account;
- providing AI-powered features such as photo item recognition, receipt reading, storage image analysis and food storage tips;
- enabling household sharing between accounts that you invite or join;
- processing orders, payments, subscriptions, refunds and shipping;
- providing customer support and responding to enquiries;
- sending service messages, account notices, order emails, push notifications and expiry reminders;
- enabling barcode scanning, image capture, storage images, shopping lists and smart links;
- improving our website, products, app, features and user experience;
- maintaining security, preventing fraud, detecting misuse and protecting QR Pantry systems;
- applying fair-usage limits to AI-powered and other quota-limited features;
- running analytics and measuring website or app performance;
- conducting marketing, remarketing and advertising where permitted;
- complying with legal, tax, accounting, regulatory and record-keeping obligations.
4. QR Pantry Pro, reminders and barcode features
If you use QR Pantry Pro, we may process additional information needed to provide Pro features, such as barcode scan data, product descriptions, product images, expiry reminder settings, storage images, shopping list data, space descriptions and smart retailer links.
Expiry reminders and barcode data rely on information you enter, scan or save, and may also rely on third-party product or retailer information. You remain responsible for checking food packaging, safety information, allergens, expiry dates and storage instructions.
If you enable expiry reminders or push notifications, you can turn them off at any time through the app or through your browser or device notification settings.
5. AI-powered features
QR Pantry includes optional features powered by artificial intelligence, such as identifying food items from photos, reading product details from receipts, analysing storage space images, matching barcode or product text, and generating food storage tips.
Who provides the AI
These features are provided using AI models from Anthropic (the maker of the Claude family of models), accessed through Anthropic’s secure commercial API.
What is sent and where
When you use an AI-powered feature, the content you submit for that feature — for example a photo of a food item, an image of a receipt, or product and barcode text — is sent to Anthropic’s servers for processing so a result can be generated. Anthropic’s servers may be located in the United States or other countries where Anthropic operates.
We send only the content needed to provide the feature you are using. Results generated by AI features (such as autofilled item names, descriptions or storage tips) may be saved to your account like any other item information.
How the AI provider handles your data
Anthropic processes content submitted through its API under its commercial terms and privacy policy. Anthropic states that data submitted through its commercial API is not used to train its AI models unless the customer opts in; we have not opted in. You can read more at Anthropic’s privacy policy.
Usage limits
AI-powered features are subject to fair-usage limits. We record counts of your AI feature usage (such as the number of photo analyses in a day) to apply these limits.
Important: AI-generated results can be inaccurate or incomplete. Always check actual food packaging for expiry dates, use-by dates, allergens, ingredients and storage instructions before relying on any AI-generated information. Avoid including people, documents or other sensitive information in photos you submit to AI features.
6. Household sharing
QR Pantry lets eligible users share their pantry with other people by creating a household and inviting other QR Pantry accounts to join it.
If you create or join a household:
- items, spaces, storage records and lists within the household may be visible to, and may be added to or updated by, other members of that household;
- other household members may see information you add, including item names, images, expiry dates, notes and storage locations;
- household activity is linked to the household owner’s account, and records created while you are a member may remain with the household after you leave or are removed;
- the household owner can remove members, and members can leave a household at any time through their account.
Only invite people you trust to your household, and only join households of people you trust. Do not add information to a shared household that you do not want other members to see.
8. Embedded content, app stores and third-party links
Pages on our website may include embedded content or links to other websites, such as videos, images, social media content, retailer links, payment providers, delivery providers or support services.
Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you visited that website directly. Those third parties may collect information about you, use cookies, track interactions or apply their own privacy policies.
If you install the QR Pantry app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, Google or Apple may also collect information about your download and use of the app under their own privacy policies.
10. Where your information is stored and processed
QR Pantry uses technology and service providers that may store, process or access information in multiple countries.
Important: Your personal information and QR Pantry app data may be stored, processed or accessed in Australia, the United States of America and other countries where we or our service providers operate. In particular, content submitted to AI-powered features is processed by our AI provider, whose servers may be located in the United States.
Privacy laws in other countries may differ from Australian privacy laws. Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to use reputable providers and to protect your information in a way that is consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable privacy obligations, including the Australian Privacy Principles.
11. How long we keep information
We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide QR Pantry, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, keep business records and support security.
Examples include:
- account information is generally kept while your account remains active;
- order and transaction records may be kept for tax, accounting and legal purposes;
- QR Pantry Partners records, such as the partner agreement accepted, commission, payouts and statements, are kept for at least five years for tax purposes;
- QR Pantry app data may be kept while your account or related records remain active;
- records created within a household may remain with the household after a member leaves;
- AI feature usage counts may be kept to apply fair-usage limits and monitor service costs;
- support messages may be kept to manage customer service history;
- comments and metadata may be retained to recognise and approve follow-up comments and prevent spam;
- security logs may be kept for a limited period to help protect the website and app.
When information is no longer required, we will take reasonable steps to delete, de-identify or securely manage it, subject to legal and operational requirements.
12. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.
No website, app, database, payment system, email system or internet transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your account login details secure and for notifying us if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
13. Access, correction, deletion and complaints
You may request access to personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate information, or ask us to delete personal information, subject to legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting and operational requirements.
If you have an account, you may be able to view or update some information directly through your account area.
Some information cannot be deleted immediately if we need to keep it for administrative, legal, tax, security, dispute-resolution or fraud-prevention purposes.
If you have a privacy complaint, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
14. Marketing communications
We may send you marketing communications if you have subscribed, purchased from us, created an account or otherwise consented where required. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in the email or by contacting us.
We may still send you important service messages, such as order confirmations, account notices, subscription notices, security alerts, expiry reminders or support responses.
15. Children
QR Pantry is not intended for use by young children without the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us without appropriate consent, please contact us so we can review the issue.
16. Data breaches
If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will assess and respond to it in accordance with applicable legal obligations, including the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which may include notifying affected individuals and relevant regulators where required.
17. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to QR Pantry, technology, service providers, legal requirements or our information-handling practices.
The updated version will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
